RevFit - Smart Punching Device
Fall 2022
The problem:
Tasked with making a smart personal fitness device, our team decided to focus on making fitness more fun and accessible to the everyday person. Boxing is an excellent high-impact cardio workout, but it’s not accessible to most people unless you belong to a special gym or have room in your home to install a massive punching bag. We decided to change this.
The solution:
Our team decided that creating a personal boxing device that can be easily placed in any home will encourage more people to pursue a form of fitness that is both effective and fun. The Fight Light is an interactive personal boxing device that is a more affordable and accessible alternative to traditional boxing equipment like punching bags. The Fight Light is an ideal blend of a workout and an arcade game.
Brainstorming and Prototypes
Throughout the course of our product development, our team created a new prototype biweekly, and we received feedback from a panel of engineers in order to revise our design and create the best product. Our prototypes began at a very low fidelity and were composed of cardboard and rubber bands, and the final prototypes consisted of wood, professional punching pads, and various 3D-printed parts.

Key Features
There are five individual punching pads, arranged at three different heights and angles. The number and positioning of pads were chosen to add variety and to make the product conducive to punches that are comfortable and correct in form.
Each pad has an LED strip around the outside that lights up to indicate where the user should punch. There are different modes: Easy, Hard, Exercise, and Challenge which modify how much time is allowed for each session, and how many mistakes are allowed.
Spring Mechanism
The rod/shaft/spring mechanism is designed to achieve smooth linear motion of the pads, preventing any rotation or vibration. The majority of the shaft is designed to sit behind the backboard so that the pads sit close to the backboard (not protruding) which also contributes to a more natural punch in addition to making the product more aesthetically pleasing.
In the Future
We experimented with sound in multiple prototypes but had a hard time getting it to be loud enough. In the future, we would incorporate sound, and add creative, custom, sound bites. We would also experiment with more modes, and incorporate more games, such as a “Simon says” game.
